COLUMBIA (WACH)â??The Columbia Police Department is investigating the murder of a 33-year-old woman.
According to investigators, around 3:30 Monday morning, 3 men entered a bakery at 93 Tommy Circle in Columbia.
Investigators said witnesses reported hearing â??what sounded to beâ?? a woman screaming and gun shots.
When police arrived, they found a woman, identified by the Richland County Coroner Gary Watts, as Kelly L. Hunnewell, dead.
Watts reports that Hunnewell died from â??complications of a gunshot wound to the upper body.â??
The police department described Hunnewell as a â??hard working mother, leaving behind her 4 children.â??
Coluimbia Police Chief Ruben Santiago says they're searching for three men who took part in the botched robbery.
Santiago says as you can see in the video the suspects come in the store and head right towards Hunnewell then a struggle insued, gunshots were fired and the suspects raced out the back door.
Santiago sees this as a senseless crime that has destroyed a family.
"They are to victims of this heinous crime. We wanna make sure that anything that we can do from a police department standpoint, that we're going to do to make sure they know that we support them," said Santiago.
According to Columbia Police Hunnewell's four children were aged five to thirteen.
Santiago says investigators are looking at video from nearby gas stations and following different tips they've received.
