COLUMBIA, SC (WACH)--Midlands leaders honored an important piece of Columbia's history Thursday.
The Historic Columbia Foundation hosted their annual Historic Preservation Awards at City Art in the Vista. City and County leaders attended the event that is aimed to honor contributions made by some of the oldest buildings along with other categories.
This year's winners included Patterson Hall, the Nickelodeon Theater, and the J. Davis Powell House.
Organizer John Sherrer said the buildings help the city in many ways.
"They serve to inspire," Sherrer said. "They serve to remind us as to where we come from, but also to give us a light into what the future might look like. We want people to come to Columbia and have them appreciate it for its unique qualities."
Other winners include the Spigner House, and the Hay Hill Garden Market.
