SC State to host banquet aimed at tackling youth violence.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- The National Society of Black Engineers at SC State is holding a banquet aimed at addressing the need to reduce violence among our young people.

The theme for the banquet is â??I AM MY BROTHERâ??S KEEPERâ??.

The event was inspired through President Obamaâ??s â??AM I MY BROTHERâ??S KEEPERâ?? initiative and the death of SC State engineering student Brandon Robinson.

Howard Jean, a Midlands native and Claflin University graduate is the guest speaker.

Heâ??s been recognized for his efforts in education and helping minority males.

The banquet takes place Thursday April 24th at 6pm at SC State Universityâ??s Smith-Hammond-Middleton Gym.

Jean stopped by Good Day Columbia to talk about the event and how you can take part.
