Ravenel petition signatures certified

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - Former state treasurer and current reality show star Thomas Ravenel willl appear as a U.S. Senate candidate on the November ballot.

Last month, the Lowcountry developer delivered 17,000 petition signatures to state election officials to get his name on the ballot as an Independent candidate. On Wednesday, the election commission certified those signatures.

Ravenel faces Republican incumbent Lindsey Graham, Democratic state senator Brad Hutto and Libertarian Victor Kocher.

The 51-year-old Ravenel resigned from the state treasurer's office in 2007 after his arrest on cocaine charges. He spent 10 months in federal prison.

Ravenel appeared on season one of Bravo's "Southern Charm" reality show and says he plans to return for a second season.
