Columbia (WACH/NWS) -- Winter began on Saturday at 12:11 p.m. but for the first full day of winter it has felt more like spring.
Several cities either broke or tied record high temperatures on Sunday.
Columbia set a new record high of 80 degrees breaking the old record of 76, first set in 1970 and tied in 1990 and 2011.
At Bush Field in Augusta, GA a high temperature of 80 degrees was also reached breaking the previous record of 77 set in 2011.
At Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport they tied the record high of 70 which was first reached in 1970.
Temperatures are expected to fall during the day on Monday thanks to a cold front moving through the area.
By Christmas Eve and Christmas Day highs will remain below average in the lower 50s.
