Relief from heat will come at expense of severe weather

Columbia (WACH) -- The last couple of days have seen highs in the mid and upper 90s with heat indices over 100.

Relief from the extreme heat is on the way, but it will come at the price of potential severe weather.

A cold front that is on South Carolina`s doorstep will push through tonight bringing a threat for severe thunderstorms.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for all of the Midlands until 1:00 a.m.

The primary threat with any severe storms will be damaging winds and hail.

The cold front will clear the area Friday morning, and by Friday afternoon highs will be 5-10 degrees cooler than the last couple of days.
