Rescue teams still searching for father and two children missing in Congaree swamp
HOPKINS, SC (WACHAP) - The Department of Natural Resources continues to search for three missing people in the Congaree swamp.
Park spokesman Dana Sohen says the park will remain closed while the search continues and there will be briefings each day.
Search crews said on Sunday afternoon the father was heard calling out for help, but that's the last they've heard from the missing man.
Officials say they've been searching for three missing people, a father and two children, since midnight on Sunday morning. Authorities say J.R. Kimbler sent a text message on Saturday night, telling family members he was lost.
A close family member says the children are 6 and 10 years old.
Search teams called for additional crews Sunday.
Crews helping with the search consist of the DNR, Richland County Sheriff's Department, The Congaree park rangers, The Columbia Fire Department and air support.
WACH Fox will continue to follow this story, and bring more information as it becomes available.
