Richland Co. Sheriff honors Fort Jackson soldier for heroism
Fri, 06 May 2011 22:05:12 GMT —
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott honored a Fort Jackson soldier Friday for a very courageous act. Captain Rodney Johnson pulled an undercover deputy with the department from a burning vehicle last September on I-26.
Sheriff Lott said Johnson ripped the passenger door off the car to get to the deputy who was in and out of consciousness. The sheriff awarded Johnson the Sheriff TMs Coin which is given to someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty. "I TMm just honored based on my faith. I feel God blessed me and used me to help another and so, I TMm very thankful for that," said Captain Johnson.
Friday was the first time Captain Johnson and the undercover deputy met in person. The deputy, who is doing fine and back on the job, is extremely grateful for Captain Johnson's actions.
