      Richland County deputy, wife killed in motorcycle crash

      RICHLAND COUNTY (WACH / AP) - An off-duty Richland County deputy and his wife were killed in a head on collision in Saluda County while riding a motorcycle Wednesday night.

      Sgt. Derek El Dada and Leigh El Dada were riding with a high school friend when the incident occurred.

      Authorities say the El Dada's were on their Harley-Davidson when they were hit Wednesday evening by a Chevrolet Malibu that crossed the center line after running off the right side of the road. The accident happened on state Highway 391 near Lake Murray.

      Sheriff Leon Lott spoke to the media about the crash Thursday morning.

      The couple leaves behind two teenage daughters.

      Sgt. El Dada supervised two units of six people each and was scheduled to work Thursday morning. He was with the department for nine years.

      The Saluda County Sheriff's Department notified Richland County.

      The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

      The SCHP reported that the driver of the car, Scotrell Praylow has been charged with driving under suspension, however, there have been no charges related to the accident.

      Lott says the whole department is devastated.
