COLUMBIA (WACH)- The suspect who escaped from Columbia Police custody has been found.
According to Columbia Police spokesperson Jennifer Timmons, Sidney Mitchell, 32, was taken into custody this morning. Police had arrested him for suspicion on a DUI charge. Timmons said officials believed Mitchell was having medical problems and needed to be taken to the hospital. An EMS crew arrived at the jail and put Mitchell in an ambulance. Timmons said Mitchell escaped from the ambulance, while it was parked at the jail.
Richland County deputies and Columbia Police were searching for Mitchell in the Bluff Road area near the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
