      Richland County seeks community's help with assault

      The Richland County Sheriffâ??s Department is looking for the communityâ??s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for assault on Saturday.

      COLUMBIA (WACH)??The Richland County Sheriff??s Department is looking for the community??s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for assault on Saturday.

      According to the RCSD, deputies responded to the Cheap Way gas station, located at 1715 Leesburg Road on Saturday, about 2:00 p.m, for a reported assault. The victim, who was is an employee of the store, said that the suspect came into the store, and attempted to make a credit card purchase.

      When the clerk swiped it, she was notified to hold onto the card. When she told the suspect he had to hold onto it, he ??became violent,?? and pushed her back while trying to take the card. The suspect left the business, without getting card.

      Surveillance video captured the suspect, who is described by the Sheriff??s Department as a black male, 17 or 18 years-old, with dreads or braids, wearing a green baseball cap, short sleeve camouflage T-shirt, blue jeans, and dark tennis shoes with a white stripe (possibly Nike symbol). The suspect was a passenger in a silver vehicle (possibly a Saturn)
