Richland County Sheriffs Department chosen for Freedom Award

COLUMBIA (WACH) - The Department of Defense has announced the Richland County Sheriff's Department as one of 15 recipients for the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award.
Sheriff Leon Lott says to be recognized for taking care of their men and women who gets called to active duty is special, but itâ??s just the right thing to do.
â??Weâ??re very proud and honored to receive that award,â?? said Lott. â??We want to send them to war without them having to worry about their job or their families.â??
Nominated by a member of the Army National Guard, the nominator reported the Richland County Sheriff's Department as a department who ensures deployed service members and their families a regional leader, and Sheriff's Chaplain who reaches out every month.
The 18th annual Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award ceremony will take place in Washington, DC, where the 2013 recipients will be honored.
