Richland County's Oldest Voter Receives Highest Honor
COLUMBIA, S.C.(WACH) - Governor Henry McMaster awarded Donella Wilson The Order of the Palmetto award on Wednesday, July 12.
The Order of the Palmetto is the state's highest civilian honor for extraordinary lifetime service and achievements of national or statewide significance.
This award is a lifetime achievement.
Donella Wilson is the oldest voter in Richland County. She has voted in every election since 1947.
Wilson is 108 years old. She is the oldest recipient of this award.
Her resume is impressive. It includes several titles such as educator, mentor, role model, community activist, and lifetime member of the NAACP.
State leaders and the community came to Wilson's home to see her receive the distinguished honor.
