Richland sheriff holding car seat safety check

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Car seat safety checks and a presentation on gangs are on the weekend agenda for Richland County sheriff's deputies.

Sheriff Leon Lott says his deputies are participating in several events around Columbia on Saturday.

Deputies are checking car seats at a celebration for Providence Hospital Northeast's 10th anniversary. The gang update is part of a briefing at the adjutant general's headquarters.

Deputies are also holding a K-9 demonstration as part of a responsible dog ownership event. And there is also an opportunity to have childrens' fingerprints taken at a back to school event.
