Run or walk, just do it in a safe city

Runners pound the pavement in the annual Safe in the City 5k Run/Walk.

COLUMBIA (WACH, AP) -The 2nd annual Safe in the City 5k Run/Walk highlights the efforts in cracking down on crime and creating a safe city.

Friday, July 20 runners and walkers of all ages will lace up their sneakers for the event.

Registration and check in will begin at 5 p.m. in front ot City Hall at Main and Laurel Streets. Registration will last until 7:15 p.m. and the race begins at 7:45 p.m.

There are also post-race refreshments, water stops and monitors and water misting stations.

Janet Parker sits down with Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott to talk about progress the department has made since last year's event.
