COLUMBIA (WACH) â?? SAFE Federal Credit Union opens new branch on Richland Northeastâ??s campus.
Through the Credit Union, students will now learn how to save and manage their money.
Hannah Mae Johnson, teacher at RNE, has been facilitating a partnership between the Credit Union and her students. The Credit Union provided each student with an initial $5 deposit, so they could open savings accounts to develop saving and investment skills.
Last year, Mrs. Johnson read an article about SAFE opening its first high school branch in another district. â??I started inquiring and asking questions and discovered that there was a possibility a branch could open at RNE.â?? said Johnson. â??We thought this partnership would be an excellent learning tool for our students at RNE.â??
The branch will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 to 8:45 and from 11:00 to 11:45 for students, faculty, and staff. Although a SAFE employee will be present during the hours of operation, student interns from RNE will be serving as bank tellers.
â??This initiative will benefit RNEâ??s community by improving and upgrading educational offerings, addressing individual student financial needs and increasing school pride and spirit,â?? Johnson said. â??The partnership will assure the community our students have the knowledge and tools necessary to be financially responsible adults.â??
