COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum is making his first visit to South Carolina to campaign since an important straw poll contest in Iowa.

Santorum's two-day swing through the state begins Thursday night in Lake Wylie and continues Friday with stops in Greenville and Spartanburg.

Santorum is playing up his connections to South Carolina. He spent summers in the state and his brother lives here. He also is touting his surprise fourth place finish earlier this month in an Iowa test vote.

The Republican one-term senator has made 18 stops in South Carolina already as he campaigns for the GOP nomination in this key early primary contest state.

Santorum is not alone in the state this week. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann attends a town hall meeting Thursday in Charleston.
