SC high school band to march in London New Year's Day Parade

Mayor of Westminster Angela Harvey delivers the official invitation to the Batesburg-Leesville band director.

BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, SC (WACH) -- Students at Batesburg-Leesville High School got a personal visit from the Mayor of Westminster, England, Tuesday.

Councillor Angela Harvey traveled to South Carolina to meet the student marching band and deliver an exclusive invitation.

She wants them to be one of around a dozen marching bands from the United States who will participate in London's New Year's Day Parade 2015.

"I take great pleasure in extending an invitation to the Batesburg-Leesville High School Panther Marching Band of South Carolina, U.S. of A., to participate in the 29th Annual New Year's Day Parade and Festival to be held in London, England," said Harvey.

The Mayor of Westminster is the patron of the parade festival each year.

She says she chose the Batesburg-Leesville band in recognition of their unparalleled reputation for outstanding performance abilities.

Two-thirds of a million people are estimated to watch the parade from the streets of London each year, and about 200 million people around the world watch the three hour procession on TV.
