SC man sentenced to 40 years for thrill shootings

Twenty-one-year-old Bryan Marion Holder was sentenced Thursday after a jury found him guilty of charges including aggravated assault and battery and first-degree assault.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) -- A Spartanburg man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison in what authorities have called a plot to randomly shoot at and kill people.

Twenty-one-year-old Bryan Marion Holder was sentenced Thursday after a jury found him guilty of charges including aggravated assault and battery and first-degree assault. Holder previously pleaded guilty to grand larceny and malicious injury to personal property.

Holder and another man were arrested last summer. Sheriff Chuck Wright said a 19-year-old woman was shot in the back from a field near a convenience store. Another man was shot at while pressure washing gas pumps.

Holder said previously the pair was doing target practice but denied shooting at anyone. Eighteen-year-old Mattison Tyler Schomer is awaiting sentencing after pleading no contest to three counts of attempted murder.
