SC ranked fifth-most violent state in country

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) - South Carolina is one of the most violent states in the country according to FBI crime statistics.

The Palmetto State ranks fifth on the list with Myrtle Beach ranking as the most violent location in South Carolina.

Law Street Media compiled the list and based its rankings on murder, rape, aggravated assault and robbery numbers from 2012 in cities with more than 25,000 people.

The statistics show South Carolina has 558.8 violent crimes per 100,000 people.

Sumter ranks as the most violent city in the Midlands and third-most violent city in the state according to the Law Street analysis.
