SC State begins search for new president

South Carolina State University has begun the search for a new president, less than a week after the school's board refused to renew President George Cooper's contract.

South Carolina State University has begun the search for a new president, less than a week after the school's board refused to renew President George Cooper's contract.

A five-man presidential search committee met by teleconference behind closed doors Monday. A school spokeswoman says no decisions were made in the 20-minute meeting.

A new president would be the school's third in three years. Andrew Hugine sued the school after his contract was not renewed in 2007.

Cooper's attorney, Donald Gist, has said the 7-4 decision not to renew Cooper's contract was illegal and he is considering suing.
