ORANGEBURG, SC (WACH) - The South Carolina State University community gathered Friday evening in remembrance of 20 year old Brandon Robinson, who was shot last week.
Robinson was gunned down outside the Hugine Suites on the University's campus.
The tragic news came as a shock to students, who described the industrial engineering major as someone who didn't cause any trouble.
"When I did come into interactions with him, he was very humble and very selfless," said Akeem Brown, Student Government Association President. "He would do anything he could for you, and it was just the smile that he had on campus."
Brown says the campus has used the loss of Robinson as a catalyst to come together as one.
"It's a closer community so of course it hurts even more to lose someone that was a part of our community that we interact with day to day," said Brown.
Among those in attendance at the vigil was Robinson's high school football coach.
Tommy Brown is the head coach at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, and says he had spoken to Robinson less than two weeks ago.
"It's hard to believe that this kid you talked to a week or so ago is gone," said Tommy Brown. "Itâ??s hard registering that you lost a kid you used to coach a couple of years ago."
Robinson was a native of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and a member of SCSU's football team.
His funeral has been planned for Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Orangeburg-Wilkinson in the gymnasium.
