School bus accident injures three children, traps driver

COLUMBIA (WACH) â?? Three special needs children were taken to the hospital after the school bus they were on collided with an SUV.
The accident occured at the intersection of Highway 21 and Old Wire Road.
The driver of the SUV was momentarily stuck in the vehicle.
The driver and three students were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver is conscious and responsive.
Several Lexington Two Transportation officials, two school nurses, school and district administration, along with Lexington County Fire and Rescue reported to the scene.
"Lexington School District Two is very fortunate to have the response teams of county police, fire, and rescue who were on the scene quickly and understand the urgency when students are involved." said Assistant Superintendent Jim Hinton.
Lexington District Two is following emergency protocol; they will have a District Representative to assist the students and their families today.
The accident is under investigation and the district will cooperate fully with the state and county officials.
