Fri, 14 Mar 2014 15:09:20 GMT — COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Thirty-one Richland County School District One students were involved in an early morning bus accident on Beltline Boulevard. A District One spokesperson said no one was injured in the crash. The students were being transported from Lower Richland High School to Heyward Career and Technology Center when the bus driver reported having problems with the brakes. Richland County School District One Director of Communications Karen York says the bus driver swerved to avoid hitting a motorist at a stoplight, and hit a tree in front of the residence. A second bus was sent to pick up the students to transport them to Heyward. The bus involved in the accident was towed from the scene. A state bus shop will check the bus to determine what malfunctioned on the bus.
The district's Student Transportation staff will also investigate the accident.
