Cause of second apartment complex fire in two months revealed

Second fire in two months destroys apartment building

Columbia, S.C. (WACH) -- The Richland County Fire Marshall's Office has determined the cause of an apartment complex fire Thursday afternoon.

Officials say the fire started because a child was playing with a lighter at The Views apartments at 1800 Longcreek Drive.

The fire effected 12 units and started in a bedroom of an upstairs apartment unit.

CFD and Irmo fire crews responded to the apartment fire just before 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

This is the second apartment fire this year. Another fire occurred at this same apartment complex in April, displacing nine families.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
