Second suspect arrested in shooting death of CCU student

Marquis Spencer McDonald, 20, is also charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in the incident.

CONWAY, SC (WACH / WPDE / AP) - A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the February shooting death of a Coastal Carolina University student.

State Law Enforcement Division agents say Stephon Mclain, Jr., 22, of Conway was arrested by Mansfield, Ohio police on Wednesday and charged with murder in the death of 19-year-old Anthony Liddell.

Liddell was shot three times at a residence complex at the Conway school last month and died several hours later.

Marquis Spencer McDonald, 20, is also charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in the incident. McDonald turned himself into authorities on March 1 and is staying behind bars after being denied bond.

Authorities say McDonald has admitted he was present when Liddell was shot but says someone else fired the gun.

SLED spokesman Thom Berry says Mclain waived extradition and was brought by SLED Agents to the Horry County jail. It wasn't known if he has an attorney or when he would appear in court.

Liddell was sophomore from Bennettsville, majoring in sports medicine at CCU.
