Section of I-77 in Richland County closed until Saturday
COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) – The South Carolina Department of Transportation says they’re closing the right lane and shoulder on Interstate 77 southbound between Two Notch Road and Windsor lake.
According to the department, the section will be close at Noon Friday, Aug. 11. The section is expected to be back open by 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12.
The section is in a construction work zone. Traffic had been shifted to the outside shoulder while the construction of a new inside travel lane was underway. The soil underneath the pavement was found to be too soft due to wet weather and the pavement failed.
Following the noon closing, the contractor will replace a 1200-foot section of the outside lane and shoulder. The inside travel lane will remain open.
SCDOT officials urge all motorists to drive with extra caution through this and all highway work zones.
