Sharing your holiday with more than one million meals

Over one million meals was raised in food and monetary donations during the 15th annual Harvest Hope Share Your Holiday food drive.

COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Over one million meals will be provided with food and monetary donations raised during the 15th annual Share Your Holiday food drive benefiting Harvest Hope Food Bank.

Share Your Holiday, sponsored by WACH Fox, is the state's biggest food drive feeding thousands of families.

"It's great to be able to contribute from our law firm back to the community. It allows folks to benefit and enjoy a good Christmas and a good season," said Jerry Reardon, an attorney at LEIP Law.

Businesses like LEIP Law help Harvest Hope provide food to struggling families throughout 20 counties in South Carolina.

"Harvest Hope is a wonderful entity in out community," said Garry Goodman, General Manager of the SC State Fair. "All of us need to get behind Harvest Hope and help them every chance we can."

According to Harvest Hope, more than 17 percent of South Carolinians live in poverty, and for every dollar collected, Harvest Hope can supply five pounds of food to a struggling family.

"This time of year is very important, and having this for 15 years it just warms my heart," said Denise Holland, CEO of Harvest Hope.

Holland adds that South Carolina is ranked seventh in the nation in food insecurities for families without children, and the eleventh worst state in the nation with children experiencing food hardships.
