SHAW AFB (WACH)--A group of Airmen are back home after serving overseas.
Hundreds of Airmen from the 451st EMXS and other units arrived at Shaw Air Force Base Thursday evening. They have spent the last six months serving in Afghanistan.
While they were excited to be back home, many thought about Capt. James Michael Steel. The F-16 pilot was killed in early April when his plane lost control and crashed at Bagram Air Field.
MSGT Michael Livingston said he is even more blessed to see his loved ones.
"I have not seen my son in six months. It was pretty emotional. I have been doing this for a long time and it is still an emotional part of my job."
Livingston said they are planning on being back until they are called up again.
