      Shaw soldier killed in crash

      A Shaw soldier has died after his pickup truck was hit by a log truck Monday afternoon in Sumter.

      SUMTER COUNTY (WACH) -- A Shaw soldier has died after his pickup truck was hit by a log truck Monday afternoon in Sumter.

      The coroner says 41-year-old Bryant Riley died when the log truck ran a stop light and slammed into his pickup truck.

      The accident happened at the intersection of St. Paul Church Road and Highway 76.

      The coroner says Bryant was a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army stationed at Shaw Air Force Base. He was expected to retire in a couple of months.

      The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
