Sheriff: Community tips lead deputies to stolen gun and drugs

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Tips from neighbors have helped deputies get guns and drugs off the streets.

Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said during a two week operation the Gang Task Force made three arrests and found four rifles, four shotguns, two .38 revolvers, one stolen .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, approximately four pounds of marijuana and Xanax bars at two homes.

Lott said deputies arrested Marquis Clark for possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of narcotics.

Deputies also charged Khiry Williams with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and Johnnie Hair Jr. for possession with intent to distribute marijuana and the unlawful sale of liquor.

Lott said the Gang Task Force was acting on information received from neighbors in the community and confirmed criminal activity at homes on Kent Street and Shealy Street.

Investigators say the men were selling illegal drugs and alcoholic beverages from the residences.

Deputies will continue to remain in these communities to locate and arrest all those who refuse to follow the law.
