      Sheriff Lott explains why he fired deputy accused of abuse

      COLUMBIA, SC (WACH)- Richland county sheriff Leon Lott has no kind words for former deputy Paul Derrick.

      Lott dismissed Derrick after video of the officer emerged of him trying to arrest a woman at a Devine Street restaurant Monday..

      This video posted on You Tube shows derrick attempting to arrest a female soldier. Instead the former deputy now finds himself facing an assault and battery charge.

      At a Wednesday news conference, Sheriff Lott said,"I want to strangle him. I just do. It frustrates me the hard work and good stuff that we do is negatively reflects on this. I've gotten emails from around the united states telling me what a horrible person i am, and what a terrible department this is."

      Lott said he plans to make sure Derrick never works in law enforcement again. Derrick also faces assault and battery charges.
