Sheriff: Suspect rams two patrol cars in high speed chase

      Jametrice Jacobs faces drug charges.

KERSHAW COUNTY (WACH) -- Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews says a high speed chase that wrecked two patrol cars resulted in the arrest of a man with a lengthy criminal past.

Sheriff Matthews says a deputy pulled over 26-year-old Jametrice Jacobs and 30-year old Clinton Harris on I-20 Tuesday afternoon.

During the stop, Matthews says two deputies were searching Harris when he jumped from the passenger seat into the driverâ??s seat and took off.

According to Matthews, the driver, Jacobs, was out of the car at the time and was left standing on the side of the interstate.

Investigators say Harris lead officers on a chase into Lee County at speeds more than 125 mph.

During the chase, investigators say Harris rammed a Lee County and Kershaw County patrol car before eventually being surrounded and arrested.

Sheriff Matthews say officers found drugs on Harris. According to Matthews, Harris has a long criminal record and is a registered sex offender in North Carolina.

      Jacobs also faces drug charges.
