Sheriff wants help in identifying "mummy" armed robber

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- Interim Police Chief Santiago hopes citizens will help recognize a man who disguised himself as a â??mummyâ?? to rob a local gas station.

The suspect was wearing a white cloth, possibly a T-shirt, covering his entire face and head and white gloves along with a blue jumpsuit.

The crime occurred around 9:00pm on July 28, 2013 at the Quick Shop located at 4000 Trotter Road. Surveillance shows the armed man walking into the store and pointing a gun at the clerk. The victim complied with his demands and places a small amount of cash into a plastic bag. The clerk was not physically harmed.

The suspect is described as a black male, possibly 20-25 years old, between 5â??8-6â??0 150-160 lbs. with black hair and brown eyes.

Chief Santiago hopes that citizens will recognize his mannerisms, clothing, or have knowledge about the crime.
