Sisters accused of assault in attempted exorcism incident
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH)-- The Columbia Police Department has arrested one woman and has outstanding warrants for her sister in connection with assaulting a woman during an attempted exorcism.
According to the department 28-year-old Brittany Jones was arrested last week and charged with assault-first degree and kidnapping for the incident that happened in March.
A 56-year-old woman told officers that she was held for an extended period of time while at a home on the 100 block of Lorick Circle last month.
The woman said Jones allegedly assaulted her in the upper and lower body with a cross because she believed the victim was 'possessed' and attempted to perform an exorcism on her.
The woman was able to escape and get to a neighbor for help and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of her non-life threatening injuries.
Wanted in connection to the incident is Brittany's younger sister, 26-year-old Tiara Jones.
Tiara has been entered into the National Crime Information Center database. The warrants are for assault first degree and kidnapping.
Brittany is currently being housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center under a $100,000 bond.
