GREENWOOD, SC (WACH/Fox Carolina) - Six people have been found dead in a home off Callison Highway in Greenwood County.
According to Fox Carolina, Greenwood County Sheriff Tony Davis says, "I've been in law enforcement in Greenwood since 1975 and to my knowledge this is the first [situation] that I responded to with this many deceased."
The dead include four adults and two children. The bodies were discovered by a SWAT team that entered the house "after several unsuccessful attempts to make contact" with someone inside.
Sheriff Tony Davis said the shooter is among the dead and the community is not in any danger. Deputies received a call from a man inside the home who said he intended to harm the individuals in the home. Initially, there were reports that the situation at the home at 2007 Callison Highway was a standoff, but the sheriff denied those reports.
While officers were on the way to the scene, according to Greenwood Co. Sheriff's spokesperson John Long, they received notice from the 911 center that a neighbor called and said two children from the home arrived at the neighbor's doorstep saying someone had fired shots.
After several unsuccessful attempts to communicate with the caller, SWAT teams went into the home and discovered the six dead. Long said they believe the incident resulted from a domestic dispute.
SLED crime scene units were called to the scene to assist.
