Snow and ice blanket the Midlands

Snow totals via NWS.

COLUMBIA (WACH) -- Snow has fallen in the Midlands for the first time since January of 2011.

We expect 2-4 inches to be on the ground after the event ends early Wednesday morning in the central Midlands. There could be isolated higher amounts.

We have also seen reports of ice build up on cars and elevated surfaces. Some spots in the eastern Midlands have had a half-in of ice accumulate on trees.

Power outages may become a problem on Wednesday.

The temperatures will struggle to make it to the freezing point during the afternoon.

Tonight, we expect overnight lows to be in the mid-teens. Black ice will be an issue where the roads remain wet.

Travel should be avoided on the roadways on Wednesday.
