Son charged with killing parents in Fairfield County

Mahorsky is accused of shooting and killing Richard Mahorsky, 71, and Ruth Marion Mahorsky, 70, with a high-powered rifle outside of their home on Highway 215.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY (WACH) - The son of a couple that was gunned down outside of their home has been charged with murder, according to Fairfield County Chief Deputy Keith Lewis.

Lewis says Matthew Mahorsky, 40, is charged with two counts of murder and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

Mahorsky is accused of shooting and killing Richard Mahorsky, 71, and Ruth Marion Mahorsky, 70, with a high-powered rifle outside of their home on Highway 215.

Deputies were notified Monday by a concerned co-worker of Ruth Mahorsky after she didn't show up for work Monday morning.

Fairfield County deputies went to the Mahorskys home on Highway 215. Once they arrived, they found Ruth Mahorsky and Richard Mahorsky dead in the yard with gunshot wounds to the head.

The deputies entered the home where they found Matthew Mahorsky, who was taken into custody.

According to Matthew Mahorsky's State Law Enforcement Division arrest record, he was convicted of pointing and presenting firearms at a person in 2004, the same year Fairfield County law enforcement say they went to the Mahorsky home for a distrubance call between Matthew and Richard Mahorsky. As a convicted felon, he is prohibited from possessing or acquiring a firearm or ammunition.

SLED and the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office are continuing the investigation into the shooting.
