Stolen laptop may lead to data breach for SC Health Insurance Pool

Officials with the South Carolina Health Insurance Pool are investigating the theft of a laptop that contained Social Security numbers and names of people participating in the program, which provides insurance to people with pre-existing conditions.
The laptop was stolenfrom a car belonging to an employee of the program's independent auditor in October . They say they don't have evidence the data has been accessed or used.
The files includes the patient's Social Security number, first and last names along with middl initial, provider identification numbers and dates of service.
They haven't released information about how many names were in the files.
