Strangers driving through neighborhood save homeowner from fire

COLUMBIA (WACH) - Two people driving down Dover Street noticed a home on fire and rescued the resident inside.

Shortly after 1:00 Friday afternoon, The Columbia Fire Department was called to a structure fire in the Olympia neighborhood, and found heavy smoke and fire coming from a mobile home. As they arrived the two individuals who saved the homeowned were assisting him in the front yard. CFD went into action and pulled out a dog from the blaze and along with Richland County EMS, they administered oxygen using a Pet O2 kit.

The homeowner was taken by ambulance to an area hospital. Three adults have been displaced by the fire and the American Red Cross is providing assistance.

The home received significant damage and the cause is undetermined at this time.
