CHAPIN, SC (WACH) -- Two struggling families got a very special homecoming Friday.
Sheila Elkins and her son were one of two families that received brand new homes thanks to the Central South Carolina Habitat for Humanity. Elkins and her now divorced husband had to sell their old house because of rising debt. They were living in a trailer.
That is when she heard about Habitat for Humanity and applied for a new home; eventually working for the organization and gaining service hours.
The mother of three said she is blessed.
"If my girls ever wanted to come back home, I would have a place for them," Elkins said. "Whenever I pass away, I can give my son something. I can have something to hand down to him. It is a place for my son to grow up and be safe."
The two families will be neighbors; creating a special bond between the two. They also received several housewarming gifts.
