      Sumter County celebrates Memorial Day

Veterans, along with their family and friends, gathered as the Sumter Veterans Association held their annual Memorial Day celebration at Swan Lake Gardens Monday afternoon.

SUMTER, SC (WACH) - Veterans, along with their family and friends, gathered as the Sumter Veterans Association held their annual Memorial Day celebration at Swan Lake Gardens Monday afternoon.

The association paid tribute to those who served the United States, and hosted the traveling replica of the Vietnam memorial.

"This is a pledge which also holds true for today's service men and women," said Commander Al Spencer. "They bravely and confidently served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and in other theaters of the war on terror."

Don Ralph, a retired World War II Veteran, says it is a duty and a privilege to be a veteran.

"I want to represent the people who did not make it," said Ralph. "It's not a chore."
