Suspect sought in December murder in Orangeburg

Michael Allen (Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office)

ORANGEBURG COUNTY, SC (WACH) – The Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office has issued an arrest warrant for a Columbia man in regards to a Dec. 6 murder of an Orangeburg man.

Deputies are now searching for 21-year-old Michael Jerome Allen on a charge of murder.

“My investigators have stayed with this until we’ve developed information that led to a suspect in this case,” Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said. “A suspect may be a step ahead, but our investigators go that extra step.”

The investigation began after deputies were called to a Maedrine St. home in Orangeburg when an area resident couldn’t make contact with a relative.

When deputies arrived, they made a forced entry after seeing signs inside of the home of a struggle.

Seated in a chair, the 58-year-old victim was located with what appeared to be a laceration across his face. An autopsy confirmed the man died of stab wounds.

If anyone has any information on the incident or the whereabouts of Allen, they’re asked to call OCSO at 803-534-3550 or Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
