COLUMBIA, SC (WACH) - Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott confirms that missing body found in Elgin yesterday is that of Gabbiee Swainson.
Richland County coroner Gary Watts says it will take more time to determine cause of death.
Gabbiee's accused killer Freddie Grant will be in court next week. Grant appeared before a magistrate at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Friday morning to determine his permanent address and his eligibility for a public defender. Questions of his guilt or innocence were not discussed.
Grant is being housed at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center pending an arraignment on murder charges after he led deputies to the body of the missing teen Thursday.
Swainson had been missing since August 18th of last year.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott charged Grant with kidnapping Swainson. Authorities extradited Grant from the Federal Prison in Kentucky where he's currently serving a 17 year sentence after a conviction on federal weapons charges.
Police arrested Dominque Grant after Swainson's phone was recovered in Myrtle Beach in July. Grant's daughter was charged with being an accessory after the fact.
Lott said Grant agreed to cooperate with the investigation once deputies planned to charge his daughter.
Donmique Grant testified in her father's federal ammunition trial that the ammunition belonging to her father actually belonged to her.
Freddie Grant had previously been convicted of a felony.
Under Federal Law, he is not allowed to posses or own firearms.
