Columbia (WACH) -- The Capital City debuting its first "Tasty Tomato Festival" Sunday. The event was all about highlighting locally grown food and home gardeners.
Slow Food Columbia and Sustainable Midlands have partnered to create a festival which will highlight the taste of locally grown tomatoes and explore the many varieties of tomatoes.
At the fun-filled festival, attendees were able to enjoy a side-by-side tasting of commercially bred vs. locally grown heirloom varieties, a Homegrown Tomato Contest with local food celebrity judges, live music, a cash bar, tomato bobbing, a Chuck the Commercial Tomato distance throwing contest, and share in a Tomato Recipe Showcase potluck supper.
Organizers are hoping to make the "Tasty Tomato Festival" an annual event.
