      Teacher accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child

      Authorities with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division say Richard Jayson Jones, 47, of Great Falls was arrested Thursday and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, victim 11-14 years of age and lewd act upon a child under 16.

      GREAT FALLS, SC (WACH) - An elementary school teacher was arrested Thursday and is accused of engaging in sexual acts with a child.

      Authorities with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division say Richard Jayson Jones, 47, of Great Falls was arrested Thursday and charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor, victim 11-14 years of age and lewd act upon a child under 16.

      Jones is listed as a teacher at Great Falls Elementary School on the school's website and his personal Facebook page.

      SLED says the offenses did not occur on school property.

      According to the arrest warrant, the incidents occurred between July 2007 and July 2010 with a child who was under the age of 16, possibly between 12 and 14 years of age, on multiple occasions in Great Falls. Jones is said to have confessed to performing the illegal acts on the child.

      The arrest is a result of an investigation conducted by SLED at the request of the Great Falls Police Department.

      Jones was transported to the Chester County Detention Center.
