Texting ban among SC bills likely dead this year

Bills that would ban texting while driving, legalize charity raffles, and yank driving privileges from teen dropouts are among issues dead for the year in the South Carolina legislature.
The regular session ends Thursday. Nearly every bill that isn't heading to the governor by 5 p.m. will end up in the trash can and would have to be reintroduced next year for consideration.
Sen. Jake Knotts says he hasn't given up on a texting ban. The West Columbia Republican is trying to attach the ban to other measures. So far, he's having no success.
Bills now being hashed out in conference committees of House and Senate members have a little more time. Legislators have until mid-June to compromise on bills that would require voters to show ID at the polls and require women to wait 24 hours to get an abortion.
