COLUMBIA (WACH) ?? For the third year, 25,000 people will all count down the final seconds of the year together on Main Street at the Famously Hot New Year??s Eve Party. And this year??s celebration promises to be Kool.
Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin announced, during a press conference at the Capitol Center, that Kool and the Gang will headline the free party on December 31. New comer ZZ Ward will also perform, taking the stage before the legendary R &B band. The entertainment portion of the final party of the year will start off with the regional band Weaving the Fate, led by Brian Connor.
??It??s a testament to how we are quickly becoming one of the most talented, entrepreneurial cities in the Southeast,?? the Mayor said of the three year old event, which showcases the ??drive for continuous improvement.??
Benjamin has also said of the year-end party, ??I am confident this year will keep that tradition alive as we welcome folks from across the nation to join us for great food and great music served with a healthy dose of southern hospitality.??
Kool and the Gang have sold over 70 million albums, 25 Top Ten hits, and 31 gold and platinum albums, including their famous party anthem Celebration.
ZZ Ward has vocals that have been called ??chill inducing?? by Rolling Stone magazine, and her current song 365 Days has been performed on national late-night programs.
Weaving the Fate is a regional act formed in 2002 by Brian Connor and three friends. They promise a mix of metal, soul, jazz, and even gospel.
For the event, 2 blocks of Main Street, along with Gervais Street from Assembly to Main are shut down. After the count down to 2014, there will be a fireworks display above the State House.
The Famously Hot New Year??s party is free to the public, and VIP tickets to the Crescent Lounge, located just inside the Capitol Center, are $125.00.
WACH-Fox??s Tyler Ryan will once again serve as the Master of Ceremonies, along with thousands from all around the Southeast meet 2014 the moment it starts.
