Thousands in the Midlands left in the dark after storms

The storms are also responsible for several downed trees in the Midlands. One fell down in Columbia's Vista Sunday evening, blocking traffic heading into Columbia.
The storms produced numerous severe thunderstorm warnings throughout the afternoon. The storms packed large hail, damaging winds, heavy rain and frequent lightning.
All of this comes after three consecutive days of record breaking high temperatures at Columbia Metropolitan Airport. There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms on Monday afternoon as well.
UPDATE: As of Monday morning, over 4,500 SCE&G customers across the state are still without power from the storm system.
