Three people killed in head on collision in Fairfield County

<font size="2">Two people are dead after a head on collision on I-77 in Fairfield County.</font>

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, SC (WACH/AP) -- Authorities say three people have died in a wreck caused by a 28-year-old woman who was drinking on her birthday and drove the wrong way on Interstate 77 in Fairfield County.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a Columbia woman was driving a Mitsubishi the wrong way on I-77 near Winnsboro.

Investigators says the Mitsubishi struck a Hyundai head on, killing the drivers of both vehicles.

Fairfield Deputy Coroner Crystal Baughman says 28 year-old Takeya Taylor of Columbia , 48 year-old Lisa Jefferson and 46 year-old Wallace Green Jr both from North Charleston died in the morning crash.

Baughman says Taylor was the driver of the car driving in the wrong direction and that alcohol was a factor.

According to the Highway Patrol both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles and

pronounced dead on the scene.

Baughman says Green was taken to the hospital and later died from injuries he suffered in the accident.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate.
